Faces of Poland: Kraków city
Kraków is situated in the south of Poland, on the Wisła river. It is the 2nd largest and one of the oldest cities in Poland. It is full of history, full of art, full of holy and important places – its historic center is on the list of World Heritage Sites.
It is also full of students, full of tourism, full of hackney carriages and full of… pigeons – they are everywhere :-).
If you visit Kraków, you should see the Main Market Square with Cloth Hall and St. Mary’s Church, and hear “Hejnał Mariacki” – a trumpet call sounded from the St. Mary’s Church main tower. It is also obvious to see the Wawel Castle – during many centuries Kraków was the main residence of Polish kings. Many dwellers of this beautiful city like to go to the Wawel Hill, sit in the restaurant or on the bench and admire incredible views of the surroundings.
It is also beloved city of John Paul II, connected with his life. Here are many places where we can find reminiscences of him. There is a World Center of veneration of the Image of The Divine Mercy in one of the Kraków’s district – Łagiewniki – . It is also the place of Relic of John Paul II.
Kraków is known as the capital of Polish culture – it is the city of artists. They love Kraków and many of them live here, so you can find here many commercial and much more no commercial cultural events and meetings.
Kraków is a specific and amazing city because of huge park round the center – the place of relaxation for people, full of green, benches, sweet-smelling flowers, sculptures and fountains.
There are a lot of hotels and hostels in Kraków, the hospitality industry is good developed, so accommodation is not a problem. Tickets valid on trams and buses can be purchased in kiosks or thicket machines.
I think that Kraków is the spirit of Poland, so if somebody want to visit our country, should see this so important city.
See you in Kraków! :-)
