Love of Egypt
9th of august 2010, not knowing anything about the country's soon to come riots, two people sat excited on their way down to Egypt. We arrived at the airport, and the heat struck us immediately as we stepped out of the plane. Being used to Gardermoen, this airport was really small!
An hour of busride later, we arrived at Makadi Bay, and our hotel. A beautiful place, exotic flowers and trees covered the yard, and the view was a sandy beach and clear, blue water. The hotelroom was cozy and very nice with a balcony and while standing out there, this peaceful feeling struck me. With almost no one at the hotel we were almost alone and it felt great. Three wonderful restaurants on the hotel area, and a small market with smiling employees made the place very welcoming and nice. With only a few meters down to the beach, a lot of time was spent there or at one of the huge pools. We had waiters coming to check on us every now and then and they were always willing to help with anything.
Snorkeling was a "must-do" event, and so we did several times. A great experience since the water was clear and you could lie on the surface and still have fishes in so many colors swim beside you. The corals were colorful and pretty, although I accidentally sat on one and got a BAD sting. I sat on the first, smashed my hand into another one in panic, and crashed my knee into a third on my way out of the water! It was pretty awful, bleeding and crying like a kid.. A painful sequence, but this way we found out that the lifeguards didn't speak english (well, they said "yes yes", but that seemed to be their only answer to everything) so being prepared wasn't too dumb.
In the evenings, we sat in the lounge, playing cards, watching whatever entertainment was going on, and getting served cold Heineken and juice, since we had All Inclusive in our trip, it was free. Well, we paid for the Heineken, but a few kroner for a cold beer? Not too bad. Also, in the restaurants, they didn't keep Heineken beer, so they ran up to the hotel to get it for us, and after a few days, they started to set a bucket of ice and Heineken waiting for us at the table! of course, this led to the nickname Mr.Heineken, and it stuck for most of the week.
The service we got from the employees was amazing, so nothing to complain about there. They were a bit concerned for me a few times when I came walking alone, they asked if my husband was ok with me walking around. Oh yes, they assumed we were married. I tried to explain the whole boyfriend/girlfriend concept a few times, but I quickly gave up and we became Mr.Heineken and... Wife.
Our week was a piece of heaven.

It was! Really amazing. But I would be careful with the corals, that was.. PAINFUL. I sat on one, smashed my hand into another one in panic, and crashed my knee into a third on my way out of the water.. It was.. awful, bleeding and crying like a kid, haha!

hahaha! Oh no! That sounds awful. A colleague of mine also scratched up on some of the corals. Was quite a wound actually. I can imagine the panic :( The red sea is the second most salty sea in the world. So I bet you felt it :P
