Nordland line. The train stretch from Trondheim to Bodø. Lonely Planet has rated this night-train stretch to be one of the world's most beautiful, and that is not so strange. We drive north under the midnight sun. A cup of coffee makes it a little easier to stay awake. The trains on the Nordland track is old and ready for renewal, but the cafe cart is cozy and comfortable a good place to sit later in the night hours, the windows are large and provide a perfect view into the changing landscape and soon, we pass the Arctic Circle. The new sleeping wagons are very nice and comfortable. I was planning to be awake throughout this stage, but even after 4 cups of coffee I had to finally give up to sleep, the soothing rocking of the train, the sounds, and the fact that we had explored Trondheim throughout the day made it impossible to stay awake. When we woke up we were in Bodø.

Bodø is a city everyone should visit, if not only for the sake of crossing the arctic circle. Surrounded by huge mountains that looms on the horizon, the sea whips over the city, the wind howling in the streets, wherever you go, you have the wind straight at you . it's really uncomfortable, but at the same time it is exotic. Be sure to book one of the hotels overlooking the pier, then you can enjoy Bodo from within. Thon Hotel Nordlys and SAS Raddison Blu offer’s this, and you can lie in your bed in your hotel room and admire the midnight sun.

On the way back home, we drive the Østerdal line from Trondheim to Røros via Hamar and back to Oslo.

Røros, one of the world's oldest wooden settlements small town with a very exciting story about how the small mining community on the mountain had an impact on all of Europe, through being a major supplier of copper, which was needed to make weapons. When Europe was in trouble, with many wars, Røros went well. In Røros there is a museum for copper recovery, we also took a guided city tour in the special and charming streets.

After 4 hours in Røros, which really is not enough time, we continue to Oslo and then on to Stavanger and Bergen.
