It's almost midnight in Trondheim, we have just received the key to the sleeping cabin, lifted the bag on the shelf and now we are heading for the cafe car to get us a snack before we go to sleep. During the night nordlansbanen will bring us beyond the polar circle and the railway end station, Bodø. Outside it is bright light. I'm trying to stay awake, taking in all the impressions, experience the rough nature bathed in the midnight sun, but eventually I fall asleep. 10 hours later, the train rolls into Bodø Station.
Norway is a beautiful country the landscapes are breathtaking even for the most experienced travelers. The changing culture, the hospitality, Norway has so much to offer, even for Norwegians. Unfortunately, statistics show that Norwegians only travel in Norway when the there are financialcrisis, but that not how it should be, Norway should be a top destination for every Norwegian and everybody else.
Me and my wife got an opportunity in our laps this summer that was too good to be true, we were picked out of by the NSB (Norwegien rail company) to take part in the NSB travel blog, the mission was: travel as far as you astray in Norway and write daily posts about it in the NSB blog. It resulted in an incredible holiday we will never forget.
The itinerary was as follows: Gardermoen - Trondheim - Bodø - Trondheim - Østerdalen - Røros - Hamar - Oslo - Stavanger - Bergen - Flam.
From the airport over the Mountain Dovre to Trondheim. The trains are comfortable; we firmly laid back in comfort department and enjoyed the landscape rushing past outside the train. The sun is shining and the lake Mjøsa is sparkeling, before we pass Hamar and heading out on the climb up towards the s Dovre Plateau. the nature is beautiful. This part of the journey is worth its price.
We arrive in Trondheim in the afternoon. This town is so full of charm. Nice buildings, the river Nidelven, which winds through the city and last but not least, trøndere, (the people whom inhabit Trondheim) is perhaps the nicest people in the world.
Lovely story, I would definitely want to visit Norway one day
