I was in love. We had spent the whole day in Trondheim and at 23.30 our train from Trondheim to Bodø was leaving We had a sleeping cabin, just for the two of us, it couldn't be more romantic.
We travel across the Salt Mountain and passed the Arctic Circle - all lightened by the midnight sun - before we got into the typical north-norway landscape and to the Norwegian railway end-station in the north, Bodø.
Lonle planet have ranked this night train stretch as one of the world's finest - I understand why-. Outside the window, we pass one landscape more beautiful than the other and it is -almost - day-light all night.
The view from the window in our cabbin makes me try not to fall asleep, I will try do remember every detail and not miss anything. The memories of the landscapes, the light and the nature will probably stay with for the rest of your life.
the sleeping cabin for two is simple, comfortable and not too expensive. The best time to travel is in late June or early July, when the midnight sun is at its brightest. The train trip takes about 10 hours.
The night train to Bodø is something everyone MUST do.
