Christmas in Milan
Me and my brother have been walking around in Milan for a day, absorbing the Milanish architecture looking at a variety of monuments and searching for the perfect Tiramisu to bring home, only to discover the obvious fact that a tiramisu only survives about and hour outside of the freezer, - well at least I got to taste a real Italian-made-Tiramisu - and the taste was delicious.
Now I’m not an expert shopper, but they say Milano Is one of the best cities to go to for shopping, and in the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele the famous brands like Prada and Louis Vuitton have there stores. As an architectural monument the gallery is beautiful -built around 1870 - with a distinct engineering-architecture style; a combination of glass and iron. In the center of the gallery there is a picture of a bull on the floor, and if you put you foot on the bulls rear end and spins 360 degrees you can make a wish.
On the south end of the Galleria you have the enormous Duomo di Milano and in the north end the Milan opera –Teatro Alla Scala.
In the Piazza dei Mercanti there is a large Christmas market, which sells everything from Christmas decorations to Italian food and different accessories.
Milano was severely damaged during the second world war so much of the buildings and architecture is from after the war, but still the buildings are grand and majestic, a building that is worth a closer look is the Bibliotheca Ambrosini. The bibliotheca has an art collection of many of the famous Italian painters like Rafael and Giovanni. The Bibliotheca also contains a great Leonardo Da Vinci collection with many of his famous notes and drawings, and also a large reproduction of the last supper. (The original is also located in Milan, but because of the popularity you must order your tickets in advance: http://www.tickitaly.com/tickets/last-supper-tickets.php )
Milan has a very god Metro system so to travel around in Milan is easy, fast and cheap
