At a bike meeting, Toppentreffet at Skagen in Denmark, I met Ole from Gjøvik. He wanted to take a trip down to Europe, not so far but to have some air under his wings. He asked me to join because everything is better when you can share it with someone. I think it was great that he asked me and said yes I will. I was actually jumping of joy. So when the camp was over we left for Nødager MC Camp in Randers in Denmark.
It was to be the start of the journey. On our way there I thought I had lost Ole. I had no more petrol on my Harley so I had to stop. He went on; we had not exchanged cell phone numbers. So I thought: hell; that was that trip. But he came back and we exchanged numbers. After the next filling I could not turn the trip teller so we had to use Ole`s bike to measure how fare I could go. Then after the next filling my speedometer did not show anything. And that is difficult I think. So I lost my tank lid, but we were able to find it. We arrived at Nødager mc camp and the nice hosts and gests, and after a beer and some talking they were on my bike to fix it.
I wonder if Ole is rethinking his offer- me joining his trip.
It must look like I draw in small catastrophes all the time.

But yes he wants me to com but not the Harley. Its old and it will break down on the autobahn, he says. So we will go on his Honda 1100 XX okay. I am not entirely happy with that but I se his point of view. So I have to repack. All my stuff go into Ole`s bike suitcases. That is okay I don’t have all that gear; I had only packed for a weekend at the mc camp. We leave the Harley, the tent and my bike bags at the camp.
So Ole is the boss for this trip.
The goal for the day is Villa Löwenhertz in Lauenförde, Germany, a nice place for bikers to stay. If you want bear it comes from a Honda motor.
On our way to the Alps the Honda is bulling with us, the battery is not getting enough power and we have to push the bike to get it starting. My Asthma is protesting against the pushing so we have to get external help. But where there are bikers there is help. It is probably the rectifier that is gone. We have located a Honda dealer right before Villa Löwenhertz. A Norwegian couple that we meet has been there and they recommend the place.
But I have to say this:
So the Harley can brake down hm!
We have dinner, beer and a lovely evening but not that late we have to start early to fix the bike.
Tuesday 21 July 2009
After breakfast we leave for the Honda dealer and think this will be an easy going matter, but no. The mechanic is trying to fix the problem but he has used two defect rectifiers and don’t understand why the bike won’t start. He tries the third rectifier from a Gold wing belonging to another customer and voila it’s going. The problem now is that they don’t have this part in stock so they have to order it.
We don’t want to stay here for two days waiting, so they lend us the part and we can go on with our trip. They will order a new rectifier and we can stop here on our way home and they can fix it.
We are optimistically driving on going as far as we can get, and that is to hotel König Ludwig Dunkel in Ingolstadt.
It is a nice old hotel with all the great kings and emperor on the wall. Ole is worrying for the bike; it has to be parked on the pavement by the street. But the hotel host is reassuring him there is no danger it is safe. We had dinner on the way so we just relax and have a nice night.

We are going for Grossglockner to day. It is mountains everywhere it’s so magnificent and we are taking a lot of pictures.
At 3,798m the Grossglockner is not only the highest mountain in Austria, it also counts among the highest peaks in the Alps. The pyramid-shaped Grossglockner lies behind the slightly smaller Kleinglockner (3,770 m), separated by a saddle-like formation known as the Glocknerscharte. We had dinner at Edelweiss Peak 2535 meter above sea level.
Later when we arrived at Tyrol at Zell am See we could see the bad whether coming. It comes and goes fast in the Alps. We are looking for shelter and stops under a roof on the side of the road. Looking around we find that we are at CAMC Classic-Auto-Motorad-Club. They don’t have opening hours at this time but the president makes us coffee and beer whilst the bad whether is passing. It is a reel nice place and we had a nice “talk” with the owner.
Later we arrives Kitzbühel and we got a room at Pensjon Angela. Nice place and we had a couple of beer before we went to bed after and exiting day in the mountain
In 1951, Oskar Kühlken, author of the "Glockner Book“described the myth behind the mountain as follows:
"The Grossglockner is more than just the highest mountain in Austria. It is enveloped in the aura of an extraordinary personality, cast on all who fall under its spell. “
With the building of the Grossglockner High Alpine Road, the majestic peak acquired a new dimension. As a popular excursion destination it is the epitome of an impressive natural experience for many people: size and power can be felt here, one is subject to the fascination of the eternal ice and the elemental force of nature.
Grossglockner High Alpine Road offers motorcycle visitors more service comfort and safety:
exclusive “Bikers Point”
“Bikers Nest” on the Edelweiss Peak
For roadway renovation use of materials with maximum grip
even more reasonably priced touring tickets Hedging sharp barrier posts.

Sun and Joy, we start the day biking only wearing T-shirts.
To day we are going to visit the Eagles Nest in Obersalzberg on the border between Germany and Austria. We get there by driving from Berchtesgaden to Obersalzberg, a small village community. At Obersalzberg, we must buy tickets on the Eagle's Nest bus (the road is closed to privately-owned vehicles) which takes us up the mountain. This bus route provides some of the most spectacular views of the German and Austrian Alps.
At the end of the bus ride, we walk through a marble-lined tunnel 400 feet into the heart of the mountain. There we ride the original brass elevator 400 feet straight up into the Eagle's Nest building at the top of the mountain. There we were able to walk around the grounds at 6017 feet altitude and enjoy the spectacular scenery.
Hitler's "Eagle's Nest" was designed and built for Adolf Hilter's 50th Birthday by his personal secretary and Head of the Nazi Party Chancellery Martin Bormann. The monument is called "Kehlsteinhaus" in German because of it was originally intended to be a "Teahouse" for the head of the Third Reich. The allied bombing and battles of World War II left the building intact and today the Eagle's Nest remains in its original state.
We had dinner at the top and were very happy with our day so fare.
Later that day we meet another bad whether and it’s late so we better find a place to stay for the night. We find us a guesthouse in Holzkirchen. When we are well in the veranda of the room we have the greatest view to the thunder and the lightning, it’s like New Years Eve and more. The next day we learnt that there had been a lot of damaging that night but we were safe.
Friday 24.july 2009
To day is just transportation, we are going home. Ole is making a schedule to get us to Uslar before they Close. Later that day I tell him I am not happy with his schedule; Ole you have forgot to put in breaks so we can rest and eat. So we had some food and are happy again. We arrives Uslar on schedule anyway and we put the bike in the garage. They are going to fix it to morrow morning. There is another couple from Norway there and they also had trouble with their Honda 1100 XX.
So I can’t help my self saying: So which bike is it that breaks down in the autobahn. The Honda Dealers brings us all to Gasthaus Zur Erholung Johannis. We had a great evening talking whit the Norwegian couple and some of the locals.
Saturday 25.july 2009
After breakfast we are transported back to the Honda dealer. The whether is not that good, seems like its going to be rain. The other couple have had rain all the time and is not happy at all. It is some waiting and I find that they have one schaps (cowboylegs) left. It is size XS but still a bit too big. But it’s the smallest I ever found. But they reduce the prize a lot and I take it. In the winter I can take it in a bit. The bike is ready and we are heading for Nødager mc camp in Denmark. It’s not that bad whether in the start and we think we will make it but after a while there is pouring down. We are driving bundesstrasse and south of Hannover we have to stop under the autobahn bridge to get our raingear on.
Another mc stop and the guy say: shaise whether. He leaves quickly he has no raingear to put on. He looks like a drowned cat. Yes it’s wet but we don’t freeze and we agree we have had a great trip.
Tonight we are going to celebrate our turbo trip; we don’t have to get up early in the morning and there are friends waiting to see us. My bike, the tent and my saddlebags are there.
Ole`s gum madras is broken, they lend us a scum gum madras it’s a bit narrow but its okay.
Sunday 26.july 2009
The ferry home doesn’t leave before 22:15 tonight so I am afraid that this is going to be a long day. But it is a great day with sun and we are going to wash the bikes and Ole is going to see the last of Tour de France.
So suddenly the day have past and we have to leave Nødager and go for Hirtshals were the ferry leaves Denmark and go for Larvik in Norway. Just outside the camp I loos my gas tank lid again and this time it’s gone for good. We stop at a shop so I can get a plastic bag to tightening the gap. We have a lovely dinner at the ferry; steak, creamy potatoes and broccoli; lovely. We find a place under the stairway and try to sleep a bit. We arrive at Larvik about 02:30 in the morning. The leg from Larvik to Hønefoss is hard. Its late night, we are tired and its cold but we still agree that we have had a cool trip.
