Alcùdia. Mallorca

In Mars 2008 I went to the gorgeous city of Alcùdia in Mallorca, with my little babygirl who was 1 year at the time.
I must admit I didn't really expect a lot - but boy I was wrong. Although this is a very mainstream place to go (but hey, some of us actually like that!) - it sure has a lot to offer people at all ages! =)

The flight was only 3,5 hours from Oslo, Norway.
We lived at a beautiful hotel named Orkìdea Playa located down by the beach, with the harbour within walking distance. It was nice to have everything like resturants, stores, beach etc closeby.
The harbour with all the boats and live music at night was really breathtaking. You could enjoy dinner outside while looking out on the ocean and the sunset in the evening - priceless! The food was very good, and it was not expensive. It was Chinese, Italian and seafood, for the most part.
Of course the beach was wonderful, and very children - friendly, as the water didn't get deep right away (not a lot of crap in the water either).
The parrot show was my daughters favourite. Who knew that parrots could ride a bike, skateboard or dance? The parrot show vists most of the hotels around.
There was several amusement parks around for kids in different ages.

We went to the old town that had a small, charming cathedral that showed a lot of Alcùdia's history and art. Really worth a visit for the people intrested in history. Alcùdia's history started in the 1200 century and was early on affected a lot by war and trying to protect itself from invaders.

The horses was a very popular tourist attraction in the city of Alcùdia. For a few Euros you could get to see the city from a horseback, which was very nice, also a good way to get to know the city. Renting bikes are easy too, and fun, not a lot of uphill.

What made Alcùdia stand out from all the other "beach and sun" places I have visited was how well kept it was all over. Lots of beautiful gardens, and clean sidewalks and friendly local people. The little water streams going into the city made think of Venice. It is perfect for families with kids, with endless activites for them all over town. This is also a very popular place for bikeriders, as they were all over the place. The capital, Palma, is a nice place to go if you're into the shopping thing. It is about 2 hours drive away. Be aware the summer season in Mallorca is not as long as in many other places, so need to go during Mars - September to have a fair shot at sunny weather =)
